John -- a great post in what I consider a very "re-visitable" blog. Just one question: why are local/non-local foods an either-or predicament? Is there no middle ground? And if year-round availability cheapens the food experience I have a suggestion: don't buy it if it's out of season. As consumers, we always have the opportunity to "vote with our wallets." Personally, I find that resisting a three dollar pineapple in February is easy.
Thanks again for the post.

I raised my kids by the seasons of WNY, wild strawberries, followed by cherries from trees from an overgrown orchard. Fall was grapes and pears and apples and plums. We would have free dinners with crappie from our pond and fesh corn from our garden. My daughter says she did not know we were poor when she was growing up, probably because something was always in season and always tasted special. It is May I can buy corn and strawberries from California now, something is lost in this equation!
